Tommy Atkins
Tommy Atkins is a Haden seedling and is one of the most extensively planted commercial export cultivars in South Africa . The trees are of average size. It is an early ripening cultivar. The fruit are large (450-700g) and the fruit shape is ovoid to slightly oblong with a very attractive skin colour. Shelf life is good and the cultivar is tolerant to black spot and anthracnose. However the fruit are susceptible to internal breakdown, jelly seed and stem-end rot. Due to its attractive external appearance good prices are realized on both the local and the export markets and the cultivar is recommended for planting in all production areas. |
